I ultimately landed on full size because I had no trouble with it, quality hard cases are easier to come across, and it'll be easier to resell when I need to upgrade. I was also concerned, like you, about using a 3/4 or 7/8 as an adult. There are times when I really have to stretch my hand, but in general I am able to manage just fine.

I rented a full size for 3 months then bought a full size. I started playing as an adult and rented a 3/4 cello for the first 9 months (but used a full size bow). With my hand stretched out, it is 17.5 cm from thumb to pinky and 12.5 from pointer to pinky. Your overall height may not be limiting in this case, but your hand size might be. I am a small adult (151cm) and I play on a full size cello. Take the time to find the instrument that works best for you. And if a 3/4 fits your size better, don't let any of us tell you not to do it - assuming you are not planning on being a professional, at least. i am short (about 155 cm or so) and tbh i dont know how much taller ill be in general. i am currently almost 15 yo, and i have been playing on a 3/4 cello for the past 4 years or so.
